An attacking batsman and masterful leg spinner, Richie debuted for Australia in 1952 against the West Indies. An amazing all rounder playing 63 tests for Australia, Richie became the first player to complete the test double of 200 wickets and 2000 runs. Captaining Australia in 28 tests from 1958-1964 (without losing a series), he helped restore Australia to the top of world cricket including the 4-0 Ashes victory (1958/59) and the first tied test in 1960. But as the voice of cricket for millions of TV viewers in Australia & England Richie has cemented has place as one of the most influential & charismatic personalities in cricket. Richie was inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame in 2007 & the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2009. |
